They are such good insulators that the heat doesn't flow. Their loss of energy is mostly due to blackbody radiation, i.e. infrared. You can notice that he is holding it be the cold edges (hence they are the dark part).

I dont think it would. In order for Black radiation to "work" it has to be at an very specific temperature. At least that is what I understand it as. Also does certain parts appear black to us is because of infrared and it is not visible to our eyes?
