I see one fundamental flaw in this design. When you insert the plug one way, it makes a connection with green to green, red to red, and so on. when you put it the other way however, you will be reversing the contacts from B/R/G/W to W/G/R/B. In other words, short circuit. Unless of course, you provide some sort of intelligent switching method.

Never mind, I see how this can work now, assuming the contact plates are wired in a mirror like fashion.
