There isn't. The cowboy from the first page is the boy, and his friend was taken by the demon, while he was manage to escape from the demon because he was cut his hand off. And he is missing his friend :-(

That's not a demon, it's a Kelpie. It hides a a beautiful white horse and compels people to jump on its back. It then "grabs" them and pulls them into the water to drown.
