I do know a couple people who make money as traditional artists.
Most conversations I have with them go like this:
"That's a beautiful pointillism piece! I am amazed at the skill it must take to poke a pin into a canvas a million times and have it look like a fantastically realistic blue crane! What are you asking for this masterpiece?"
"$35"
"... And how long did it take you to complete it?"
"A bit over three weeks, maybe 4 hours a day."
"So... Do you realize that if you'd been working minimum wage at any job in this province for that long, you'd have been paid just under $1000 for the time it took you to make this picture, and you're selling it for $35?
"No one's going to buy that crane for $1000!"
"I bet you're right about that. ...Do you have a donation jar somewhere that you're saving up to go to business school? Because I'll put $100 in it right now."
