Most the folks running the DeBeers jewelry monopoly-- who both control the diamond supply and restrict quantity to create a false illusion of value, AND who MADE UP the entire engagement ring tradition in the early 20th century as a marketing campaign-- is male.
It benefits neither the groom nor the bride (who gets a shiny if worthless rock, and marries into a household deep in debt to pay for that stupid shiny rock).
