I think you need to realize that the US and Russia are big nations who will often find themselves on opposite sides of different conflicts, and not one nation will always be on the right side of every conflict. The US has been on the wrong side plenty of times, but regarding the Ukranian conflict, Putin is on the wrong side.
Putin is on the right side if we recognize that there are two sides with different points of view and there is no absolute truth. Because in this case he is on HIS side. Putin's rating shows that Russians trust him. And your truth depends therefore on which side you are.
Oh, I read like 20 fake-killer articles, posts from each side (there are more than 2 actually) every day. It called Information Warfare. Suppose rebels had Buk, but Ukrainian army just has Buks and warplanes in this region. For what reason? Rebels haven't any plane. Another question is who will get a profit. Russia will get new sanctions from Europe and US, rebels will get death, Europe will get 298 bodies and reduction of trade relations with Russia. So if it were an ordinary murder, I'd say the killers are US and Ukraine.
P.S. It's really blow your mind if you read each side native news and blogs, so opposite attitude on one event.
