1. Depends on the age. Girls tend to get taller than the guys in early Jr. High, but by high school the lads have caught up and are overtaking them in height. Though that only looks like about a 4 inch difference. 12" would have the top of her head only coming up to his shoulder.
2. There's bundles of nerves a bit deeper in the armpit if you stab into them. This is why her fingers are extended.
