I was allways wondering what the currency is that sign?

As a veteran player I was remember in my time 15 years ago they've used Yen, so I was allways considered the currency as Yens. I still have the gameboy game card :-)
¥ = that is Yen
I know that, they have started with Yens and then changed a currency to Pokedollar - and I don't love the idea.
