Fish eyes are actually quite similar to the eyes of birds and mammals, however fish eyes have more of a spherical lens.
Actually every creature above the sea/ocean is eyes based on sea creatures. Their purpuse are to detect light for making important prosseses in the creature body(building and dismantling enzymes/proteins...). Basically eyes are acting like bio-photodetectors , that humans were able biomimic them into cameras, photodetectors - light sensors, light bulbs, LED, microscopse, telescopes...

all of those except for maybe the telescope, I have no idea how Galileo just thought of making one without studying the fish eye.
For almost everything in the world there's a mathematical formula that based on scientific principles . If you know the principle you can make everything - most of them aren't known to the human race.

By the way the human/mammal/bird eyes are should work underwater, that's why we can't see kind of spectrums because we don't need them to survive like other animals.
