Technically RWBY isn't anime. Anime inspired, but not Anime. Anime is animation made in Japan. RWBY is is made in America. Also that's clearly Yang Xiao Long from RWBY.
The word anime is derived from animation. We westerners decided that "anime" is strictly japanese to make it easier for our poor archiving minds. To the japanese its a word for all animation, and few of them would call anything "cartoon". Anything animated is called animation/anime/cartoon etc. So yeah, one can say whatever, read whatever, it's up to the perciever. But it technically IS an "anime". An american anime :D So saying that it is NOT an anime is clearly wrong ;P/End nerdy rant
i think that there is a japanese definition and a international definition of that word, even when you are right in the fact that the word: anime means animation in japan, in the rest of the world we need to differentiate the japanese animation from the animation from the rest of the world for the sake of a better catalog and study. and thats the reason of the "occidental" word anime, because as you know even the word otaku have a different mean in japan
