You need to develop SOME fear resistance as a kid; to have the lesson of "things on the screen are not real" driven home. I have to say now, as an adult, that creepy-looking alien bird monsters is a far better way to do that than a film about a violent psychopath gruesomely murdering everyone he can find, and that having sex is a sure-fire way to be murdered. I don't think the puppets taught me to become a horrible or dysfunctional human being at an impressionable age.
