Fun fact: most (if not all) electric/hybrid cars are worse for the environment than regular cars because of the pollution that's caused by the mining of minerals needed to make the batteries.
I alway say that, if we return to horse and cart is better for everyone.
Fun fact: the electric engine is older than the combustion engine.
Electric engines are by far superior to combustion engines.
But car manufacturers are total asshats who are just about the money.
They work together with oil companies to get the most out of the consumer by simultaniously acting like they do it for the good.
It is cheaper to invest into the development of cumbustion engines than into better batteries and electric engines, which have been neglected for over 100 years.
And this comes from someone working for one of those car manufacturers.

Oh i agree, the cars that are being made these days that have a gas engine (generator) to recharge a battery to power an electric engine are incredibly powerful. It has the benefit of 90 something percent of the power is transferred to the wheels, vs the ~%20 of gas engines. Also being electricity, you get the power then and there, not wasting time pumping fuel into the cylinders and all.
