i suspect it might be death/the grim reaper. Since she is wounded in such a way she might die, its the most logical explanation.

maybe they destroyed everything and bring some creatures to earth...
would be scary :o, but i actually think they might be landmines, since it is possible they are in an area full of war, since yo ucan see smoke coming from the village, but the smoke isnt coming from the rooftops.
