Before you laugh at the poor dog, first ride an escalator in your bare feet. Now consider that a dog's feet are MUCH smaller, and have little pads that can be pinched between the grooves of the steps. Also the fact that it can't see where it's hind feet are, and that ground that moves and changes shape under you is terrifying.
Seriously, this here is the only way you SHOULD take a dog up an escalator. The associations that train guide dogs expressly forbid you to try to take the dog up an escalator. Pretty much any building with one also has an elevator, or stairs.
