Worst example I can remember; I paid my landlady by check promptly on the 1st of the month. She didn't bother to deposit the check until the 21st of the month. After two weeks, I'd checked my bank balance and though "Hey, I'm doing pretty good this month! Let's do a BIG grocery run! When was the last time I had lasagna?"
Bounced the check by less than $20.
$40 NSF charge, for both of us. Bitch expected me to pay her half too.
Paid her in cash from then on.
