Mmhm. Judging by the position of the floor tile boundary, the door was originally installed just like you say. This is somebody's amateur home reno screwup... compounded by ruining a perfectly good door to accommodate the screwup.
Kind of amusing, but also kind of makes me want to smack the owner upside his head.
