...How come embedded Youtube vids play properly... but go to the site, suddenly they're hosted on the slowest servers on the entire Internet, defaulting to 144px resolution, and make you watch two ads at the start, the finish, and every 3 minutes therein?

Okay it's not really that on-topic, but would someone please create a serious competitor for Youtube, advertise it like crazy (how about ON Youtube?) and run them right out of business? They need to be a LOT more worried about losing all their traffic and ad revenue than they clearly have been in recent years.
