As a human being with functional empathy, and a raised by ethically strong humans, I first look for ID to see if there's any contact info I can use to return the wallet. I might post a "Found" notice somewhere if it's near to where I found the wallet (not mentioning the cash at all. "ID cards are a pain to replace I know, so if you'd like it back, text me @...") If, after making all reasonable efforts to find the owner for several weeks, I am unsuccessful... then I will deposit the money, keep the wallet stored somewhere. If the owner comes looking for it a month later, I write him a check for the amount, which I shouldn't have trouble remembering because it WAS a pretty memorable find.
So...What's "God" got to do with this scenario?
