When I did my student exchange in Japan (1998) they were quite interested in this idea that westerners (more Europeans than North Americans really, but they were unaware of that distinction) kiss on the cheek as a polite, non-sexual greeting among friends and fond family members.
Yeah... it got this awkward about this fast. :P
From this post, it seems they're still kind of entertained by the concept.
