They literally don't. That's a big part of what defines them as animals and not people.

I am in favour of avoiding needless and purposeless cruelty towards animals, but the overwhelming majority of the animals we eat are born, raised, live, and die, specifically for the purpose of ending up on our plates. That is their purpose; the reason they exist.
