Well, Putin say bad things about the Gay community before the olympics started, and also he said the Gays aren't welcome.
So becuase they had a problem with the pyrotechnics, one of the olmpyc ring look like a asterisk(which usally using for foot notes). So it's like they "try" to say 'gays not included' in the olmpyc.

Could you please provide a citation from Putin, where he actually said that? In fact, he did not.
All this noise started because of a law, which restricts promoting of gay culture to children. I live in Russia and know several gays. Nothing prevent them from doing whatever they want. They have own clubs etc.
