I remember a cottage trip, several friendly families all going in together on it. I was probably 10 or so.
In the middle of the night I was woken up by horribly loud static. I grumpily got up and quietly entered one of the friendly couple's bedrooms, switched off the radio tuned away from any stations, and angrily stomped back to bed. Grumbling not quite quietly enough about weird people who can sleep through that blaring white noise.
Only now as an adult does it occur to me that no one was exactly sleeping in that bedroom and the radio was meant to cover other sounds. Sounds which presumably stopped when a pissed off 10 year old barged into the room.
