Baby gets glasses- can see clearly for the first time

How exactly do they get her to read the eye chart? Generally kids have to be old enough to complain about not being able to see stuff before people figure out they need glasses.
My daughter had glasses at about that age - the difference was amazing. They use eye drops then reflect light off the back of the retina and measure the refraction of the light coming through the lens.
