And then the US finds Canada too polite and proper because Canada does not want to eat fast food and get fat and it wants to control its gun laws so they become distant friends who touch base every once and a while.

And a few other things like, Canada deciding to abolish slavery a century earlier, take care of it's sick whether they have money or not, give "Daddy Britain" (or the Queen, IRL) a free room when they visit as a courtesy.
And yet, we remain economically co-dependant. Ending trade would ruin us both (US has a larger economy, but Canada is their largest trade partner by a fair margin; neither could survive without the other). Not sure "distant friends" fits. "Passive-aggressive family" seems closer.

Also, we eat our share of fast food; we just use our own local ingredients with higher quality control standards.
