Nearly all Disney's biggest and best movies have always been adaptations of old tales and famous stories (they then try to make straight-to-video sequels of the more financially successful ones, and we find out how terrible they are at writing an actual original plot).

I admittedly do not know if Frozen has some folktale origin though.
