Hi, dudes!
I missed you
in USSR too
hi, dude
I'd love to ice skiing on a big wild lake, the water never gets frozen where I live :(
you're lucky, now in Siberia is -40C
I always wondered, what do you wear every day with this kind of cold ? What kind of clothes ? I suppose you don't wear a simple jean ie
they wear fur coats
That protects the legs too ? You only have trousers underneath ?
I dunno, I never lived in those colds =)
oh okay
Layers mainly. Long underwear under the jeans, a heavy leather coat with padded thick line (the liner comes out for spring/fall weather) an ivy-style cap with a hidden extension I can bring down over my ears and the back of my head if the winds blowing enough I care more about keeping them than I do looking stylish. I wore leather fingerless mountaineering gloves for years, even after I quit smoking. I like being able to grip things properly. Surprisingly, my fingers never got very cold, what with the hot blood having such a short trip out to the fingertip tip an back under the thick material.
The main idea is to have an thick outer material that stops wind and traps air (i.e. leather, denim is alright but not the best) and a soft but thick inner layer to serve as a warm-air cushion, keeping your body heat trapped near the skin.
That's half of it. The rest is some physiological conditioning and environmental adaptation (I'm 3rd generation, just slightly chubby, plenty of body hair. ^_^) and finally some mental toughness. A big part is just to accept that you will feel some cold, be a bit uncomfortable, but not treat that like death or the end of the world, and just get on with your day.
